This is a series I'm playing with involving free standing lace and free motion quilting. I draw the leaves with stitching over whole cloth. The one in the image is hand dyed fabric from another artist. For the lace leaves, I do the same drawing stitch over a heavy stabilizer instead of fabric. I cut the leaves out

and add them to the quilt. The stabilizer washes out and the leaves add texture and dimension to the piece.

  1. Andi, these leaves are wonderful! I can't wait to see them in person.

  2. Thanks, I'm enjoying them. I dyed some fabric earlier this week with the plan to use them as background. One is varied spring greens, the other is varied grays, in kind of a pebbly pattern. That one, I hope, will become a streambed littered with leaves.

  3. how are they made? What I'm saying is random, but don't others make fake nails out of patterns like this? It's like this liquid substance and you shape it using a sharp point. Very hard to accomplish!
